South Australia's Dairy Leaders Celebrated at 2026 Industry Awards
Presented by the South Australian Dairyfarmers' Association (SADA) during the South Australian Dairy Awards Gala Dinner on Friday night, the awards celebrate individuals who are helping shape a stronger and more sustainable future for the state's dairy industry.
The 2026 SADA Young Dairy Farmer of the Year Award was presented to James Hurrell of Rockwella Farm Holsteins in recognition of his outstanding leadership in delivering one of South Australia's most significant dairy developments.
At just 24 years of age, James has played a key role in designing and delivering a state-of-the-art robotic dairy, while leading the farm's breeding program through the use of advanced genetics and genomic technologies. His vision, technical expertise and commitment to continuous improvement make him a worthy recipient of this year's award.
The 2026 SADA Innovative Farmer of the Year Award was awarded to Wes Hurrell of Rockwella Farm Holsteins.
Wes has spent more than a decade driving innovation across the family business through industry-leading genetics, precision livestock technologies, renewable energy and significant investment in robotic milking infrastructure. His commitment to embracing new technologies while maintaining a strong focus on animal welfare, sustainability and business performance has positioned Rockwella among Australia's leading dairy enterprises.
The 2026 SADA Best Relationship with a Processor Award was presented to Grant and Deb Jolley of Jolley Farms for their outstanding partnership with Fleurieu Milk Company.
Recognised for consistently producing high-quality milk, maintaining excellent communication and building a relationship founded on trust, professionalism and collaboration, Grant and Deb exemplify the strong partnerships that underpin a successful dairy industry.
SADA President Robert Brokenshire said the awards highlighted the strength and resilience of South Australia's dairy sector.
"These awards recognise more than individual achievement—they celebrate the innovation, leadership and partnerships that are driving our industry forward," Mr Brokenshire said.
"Despite the challenges our farmers have faced over recent years, including drought and market uncertainty, these winners demonstrate the confidence, resilience and forward thinking that will ensure South Australian dairy continues to thrive."
Mr Brokenshire said it was fitting that the awards were presented as SADA celebrates its 90th anniversary.
"For 90 years, SADA has proudly represented South Australian dairy farmers, and tonight's winners demonstrate the bright future that lies ahead for our industry. Congratulations to all of our award recipients and finalists."
The SADA awards form part of the annual South Australian Dairy Awards, recognising excellence across dairy farming, manufacturing and product quality while celebrating the people who continue to strengthen one of South Australia's most important agricultural industries.
