Carbon credits are tradable certificates representing one metric tonne of avoided or removed GHG emissions. They allow entities to transfer emission reduction claims and offset emissions. The Australian Government offers Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) through the ACCU scheme.

Carbon markets incentivise emissions reduction or carbon sequestration, offering farmers a chance to benefit from environmental stewardship. In Australia, the Emissions Reduction Fund (ERF) supports carbon markets.
